B.Voc.Food Processing & Technology

Food Technology deals with a blend of physical, chemical or microbiological techniques and processes for transforming raw ingredients into food and also other forms in food processing industry. Food processing refers to converting the raw ingredients into edible components or transforming food into other edible forms. B.Voc Food Processing Technology is 3 year program. Food Technology deals with the various chemical processes that food products undergo to make them consumable and ready to market.

There is plenty of scope available in food technology.  The key scopes are given below:

  • As organic chemists, food technologist advises on the methods by which the raw materials have to be converted into processed food.
  • As biochemists, they suggest improvements in flavour, texture, storage, and quality.
  • As home economists, they become the expert in dietetics and nutrition and they test the food and recipes according to the directions on the containers.
  • As engineers, they are required for planning, designing, improving and maintaining the processing systems.
  • As research scientists, they carry out experiments regarding improvement in yield, flavour, nutritive value and general acceptability of the packaged food.

Government Jobs

Graduates in food technology can find jobs in various government organizations, laboratories etc.  Many firms working under the Food Corporation of India recruit graduates in this field. Initially they are recruited as trainees. In the training period itself they can earn salary of Rs. 20,000/- per month. The training period will be generally six months. After initial training they will be promoted to higher grades based on their capabilities. Their salary scale will also increase consequently after the training period. Apart from salaries they are also provided with good benefits also. Graduates in this field can also try for jobs in laboratories where the quality of food products are tested.

Private jobs

Many private sector organizations recruit graduates in

Food technology. Companies like Amul, Cadbury, Britannia, Nestle etc recruit professionals in food technology. Entry level professionals will be given a six months training initially. After completing the training period they will be promoted to higher grades. The candidates can earn up to Rs. 15,000/- per month in the training period itself. The salary will be further increased after the training period based on the position of their job. Graduates in B.Voc food technology can also find jobs in home catering services that are owned by food entrepreneurs.
