Across the world, the food-processing sector has a large potential for growth and socio-economic impact as it leads to income generation by creating jobs for the rural poor and thus reduces the burden on the agricultural sector. It also helps in the reduction of wastage, value addition, foreign exchange earnings, and enhancing manufacturing competitiveness.

This sector serves as a vital link between the agriculture and industrial segments of the economy. Adequate focus on this could greatly alleviate our concerns on food security and food inflation.

Curriculum details would include a suitable mix of general education and skill development

Various visiting guest faculty from the Food Processing and Preservation Industry as well as the experienced Faculty of the institute would be sharing their knowledge, information, experience, technology with students.

Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) is an undergraduate course based on higher education leading to a Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) degree, with multiple exits as certificate/ Diploma/ Advanced Diploma/ Degree under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). The higher education system incorporates the requirements of various industries in its curriculum, in an innovative manner to produce holistic and well-groomed graduates and to ensure that the graduates have adequate knowledge and skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

The curriculum is assigned with NOS and Qualification packs given by respective Sector Skill Councils under NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation). NOS (National Occupational standards) refers to standards applied uniquely in the Indian context comprising of performance standards that individuals must achieve when carrying out functions in the workplace, together with specifications of underpinning knowledge and understanding. The qualification pack comprises the set of NOS, together with educational, training, and other criteria required to perform a job role.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility condition for admission to B.Voc. The program shall be 10+2 or equivalent, in Science and Home Science stream.

Objectives of the B Voc Course in Food Processing Technology.

  • To empower the students with the professional competence and expertise of food processing technology.
  • To enable the students to understand food composition and its physicochemical, nutritional, microbiological, and sensory aspects.
  • To familiarize the students with the processing and preservation techniques of food products.
  • To emphasize the importance of food safety, food quality, food plant sanitation, food laws and regulations, food engineering, and packaging in the food industry.
